I conducted a painting with music workshop for 20 adults in Miyasaki Art Center, Japan on the 11 Sept 2010. It is about 4hours from Studio Kura. I prepared different music from different time period, from Satie to music that inspired Kandinsky to moby and ended with Chinese pop singer Faye Wong. The workshop was a success and everyone had a fun time painting!

works 1mby 1m, oil on canvas. for consignment in a gallery in bergen.
the long line.. this nattjazz (means night jazz) attracts the entire bergen population. the pass are not cheap. 10 days is 1500kor( Sin$ 400) , 1 day pass is 390kor(sin$100) . they are doing very well... every night at USF, I see crowds flooding in... music is the big thing here... compared to art, and the reason is jazz is pure entertainment and a social gathering, with drinks..
solargraphy-a project started by a professor in finland. this pinhole tracks the path of the sun. i have done some in singapore and these are in bergen. a work by an artist from germany, he inflates the balloon himself and sends them to anyone who is keen to collaborate. the trick is to burst the balloon and take a pic and email him.

check out the customs they are wearing... on this day, many men and women dressed up in traditional dress... interesting , the men looked much better than the women, the custom made them looked pregnant and quite unflattering.

we celebrated after the performance with wine as I showed my works at the kafe klippers. i got a free house wine and any meal on the menu.

mag working hard... we did a total of 16 drawings in a day, before the live painting performance on the 16 may 2009.

the time is about 11pm and the sky is still so bright.
me and the musican ( for impulse mark 1) he is from usa /Israel.he is studying music and majors in violin. He played very well for us for the collab.

mag and her friend from italy, he is from london working as a civil engineer. he is here to check out the norway girls. yes, they are mostly very slim, attractive and pretty, i must say.

watched a performance at Landmark, the artist was singing and there was a projection with a karaoke style video... the title of her piece was something like , song for the raped woman.

texile artist sissel, she works with yards..tapestry and did many works are museums in norway
artist asa does intricate needle works and her works are very time-consuming, she told me she likes this process of working......she also works with rubber and those works are very interesting.she gave me many of her catalogs.

My Open studio poster outside my studio.
Sardine is a place for concerts. i watch this one, part of the Bergen Jazz fest.
A poem by a poet from USF and it was done by Line , an artist who works here..This is a space where artists can do anything. So far, this is the first and I was told nobody is keen to use this space, what a pity.

This is how the outside of the gallery looks. This is an gp exhibition by the first year MA students from the art school.
I like this work, it is quite interesting. the work on paper is on the wall, and the in front of it is a video projection of some moving organic objects and in front of the projector there is a cut-out paper so as to achieve the irregular shape,instead of the 16:9 ratio.
This one i also like, the work is projected onto this form.

A tree outside the oldest church in Bergen, St Mary, they use a rod to support and over time, the tree grew into the foreign object and becoae one. Below is the church's door.

My husband posing, the view and scenery is awesome. all these pics are not doing any justice to the actual beauty of God's magnificence creations.

Im so happy! I am in a cruise in this picture. This is a one day tour, starts from 1030am , take train, then take cruise, then train and bus back to Bergen at 8+pm reach. Very value for $, about $500 for 2 pax.

Open Studio- 21 April 2009 2-7pm. The wine and snacks were compliments from USF. I was quite pleased with the turn-out as I have constant flow of artists to talk to....

The houses are very nice...I love the trees and how they look against the blue sky...
The gallery that I will be screening my handpainted on 16mm clear film, Diary (4-15 April 2009, Bergen, Norway) The opening is on 8 May 2009.
An artist I met recently at USF, she is a great abstract painter, likes John Cage too... He name is Therese.
Maia, a sound artist in USF, she makes cool installation using sound...

It's Easter Sunday!!

For a long time, the sun is sleeping. Today, surprising it woke up and people started to appear. This week since last friday(Good Friday), I was told by locals that the town will be dead. People will be skiing and visiting family and wont be in Bergen. I was shocked to see so many people here on Easter Sunday.

So, I had to seize this superb weather and grab a beer! Artist-in-residence has a discount of 10Krones, which is about SIN$2.5. A beer costs 49Krones after the discount. Not very cheap. But compared to other things in Bergen, most things are more expensive then Singapore. So comparing, beer is the same price. ;)

The first day Im wearing this doggy cap, it looks funny but its actually very warm; keep my ears warm...

A nice small gallery near USF
My roll of paper that I bought. I have completed it yesterday, 8 April 2008.
A nice church, many of the churches here are not open to the public, this one states that it is open 11am to 1230pm, which it didnt. pity that i can only see the outside...
went to the natural science museum. many animals, birds, fishes, whales even... quite scary when they are look like real..
Spider crab!! makes me wanna eat ;) but this one might be poisonous.

This is a gorgeous, every artist dream studio, measuring at least 1000 square feet with an amazing view of the ocean, actually called fjord, I realised. Bergen is the capital of fjords. It is a geographical formation I read..
The other view of my studio.
This is the kitchen in my studio apt, which is just 5 mins walk away.
The view in my living room, all the boats..but no one is using !! so wasted...

This is the desk of line (pronouced as LINA) she is in-charge of the AIR program here. Check out the book on her desk, it is mine, flown all the way from Singapore.(2 yrs ago when I apply..)

Today is the 9th day that I am here in Bergen. I have been using facebook. Since my last residency in Brussels last year, it seems like the whole world is on facebook. Having much though, i think i would also want to blog this down here.. to make it a complete documentation of this visual diary.
This is how my apartment at the small boat harbor looks like...its a cozy studio apt with everything inside.

In celebration of its 28th anniversary, the Printmaking Society Singapore will be showcasing 40 works made over the last two years by 20 of its members. Titled Proof V, the show at the SG Private banking Gallery, Alliance Française, Singapore, will open on the 22nd of October 2008 at 7pm. Running from the 23rd of October to the 4th of November, the show will feature Cultural Medallion winner Ms Chng Seok Tin, as well as prominent members of the Society, including The President’s Young Talent Award recipient, Ernest Chan, Marisa Keller and Miguel Chew. The participating artists have complete freedom thematically and artistically, within the almost limitless possibilities of printmaking. The works featured showcase a range of printmaking techniques, from lino-cut, woodcut, collagraph, stencilling, and silkscreen, to etching, aquatint and lithography. Collectively, the works present the high degree of artistic originality and technical skill for which the Printmaking Society Singapore is known.
